Where Does It End? (My Rant!)
First we bailout financial institutions, the auto makers see a good thing and want to jump on the gravy train…Now the Governors of New Jersey, New York and Connecticut want the feds to bail out thousands of financial industry workers who are loosing their jobs!
This is incredible!
The three Governors have asked for $48 million in emergency grants, allowing states to give each laid off worker $12,500 to help them find jobs and relocate. Pardon me, but what are these guys smoking?
In a letter to the US Labor Secretary, Governors Corzine (NJ), Rell (CT) and Paterson (NY), said “The federal government acted swiftly to implement strategies to stabilize financial institutions; now it is to act together to support the workers dislocated from those institutions.”
Where do I buy a ticket for a ride on this train?

Once you dangle money in someones face, everybody wants you to buy them a crutch too.
Oh, good. Everybody wants to be bailed out now. It is easy money and who not getting it? That is exactly the message that Paulson wants to pass. What a wonderful world.
Hey Laura ... I was ranting to my husband about the $12,500 this morning. Funny you should mention it! Losing ones job is a dreadful event, but it has and is happening to Americans in many industries. I just do not get this one! Am I missing something!
We are quickly becoming a nation of people who do not know how to survive. We are appearing weaker and weaker to the entire world!

Sadly, I read that post and my heart does go out to all of us who will be laid off. Do you actually think we all will find jobs in this immediate area when everyone else is laying off?
Instead of giving us money, I would like to see a way that we can use resources at a government site, say the Unemployment Centers to be able to fax resumes out and see if there are jobs opened someplace for us.
Some of us will be too proud to accept handouts, but I will take my unemployment until I am earning a salary once again. I put into it for years, once in my life, I will take back.
I walked into my local bank today to see the job openings and was told, only teller positions are available, all the mortgage folks have taken the rest of the positions.

Has so many jobs been lost in NY, NJ and Ct at the same time. The number I believe was 8,000.
Not asking for the money, asking for the resources. I feel any person who was displaced should have the right for that...never was, this is my first time and I was just saying how I felt.
The NY, NJ, CT Governors estimate 82,000 jobs will be lost in the NY metro area. This estimate is for what they call " financial services industry" employees (Wall Street included). You can see more if you check the link in the story.
My thoughts are why should these employees be entitled to more than say a construction worker who, we will all admit, has been hard hit by the nation's economic problems.

Good rant! I'm in total agreement. This bailout stuff is nonsense. Let the cream rise to the top. Let the chips fall where they may, and we'll get out of this morass.

82,000, what's another 0 .....just joking on that one. My God, this is worse than I had imagined. But Laura, you are right, it should be for one group, it should be opened to anyone who leaves the metropolitan area for a job elsewhere....not someone with their hands out.
I asked a few of my friends in that financial situation and they said, they would gladly relocate with help, and they might have to move in with family until they can find a job.
Nance The problem with people leaving the metro area is that we loose their taxes, creating a larger burden on those remaining! It's a tough situation!
