: James Bond Meets the Jersey Shore!

James Bond Meets the Jersey Shore!

Ever thought about donning a mechanical backpack contraption and flying?

Well, if that’s been your dream…dreams come true at the Jersey Shore.

For $130, you can power up the JetLev at Jersey Shore Watercraft Rentals in Berkeley Township for a half hour.  The JetLev lets users hover above and fly over the surface of the Barnegat Bay.

..

As you can see in the video, the device resembles a backpack with handles and two powerful jet nozzles.  The pack is connected by a long black hose to a 10-foot boat that trails behind the user in the water and forces water through the hose and out the nozzles, creating the lift that propels the wearer into the air.  A supervisor on a nearby vessel controls the speed of the jets, and thus the height of the flier.

Raymond Li, inventor of the JetLev, began dreaming about the device when he was 14 years old, after seeing the James Bond film Thunderball in 1967.

Saw that thing on TV the other night. My kids were watching the cartoon channel and they did a 2-3 minute spot on it. It looked like a lot of fun!

Laura -- Hmm, I like water, but don't necessarily like heights.   This might be something interesting to look into though.

That's different, we have not seen these contraptions in our area as of yet... would not be for me as I'm not a thrill seeker... Thanks for sharing
