Bulb Confusion! (Friday Fotos)

We’re having a heat wave here at the Jersey Shore.  Temperatures have been in the high 50’s and 60’s.

It’s quite a difference from the winter of 2011 when our shovels and snow blowers were getting a real workout.

Unseasonably warm weather is welcome at the Jersey Shore…but it’s wreaking havoc in my garden.  My Jersey Shore garden is suffering bulb confusion!

My bulbs seem a little confused as well, Laura!  My Daffodils are already up and blooming, along with some Crocus.  Freezias aren't far behind.  Our previous winter was so elongated that I thought it would go on forever.  This one never seemed to arrive!

It is going to be an early spring in some areas.  I have all ov ours protected so they come up at the right time.

Hi Laura,

I am in Southern California but my bulbs usually don't bloom until end of March and they are all up and ready to bloom. So if we have a cold spell or a bad wind/rain storm I will surely lose the flowers. I guess there is bulb confusion everywhere since it has been mild this year?

Lucky you. We still have too much snow (on and off) for the bulbs to break through yet. But we're anxiously awaiting those first sprouts. Enjoy your early spring!

Hi Laura,

I think the gardens across the country are all confused and do hope that we don't have the late cold spell that kills off the flowers buds.
