10 Years Out...A View from North Jersey (from a now Jersey Shore gal) So Don't Mess With US

My memories from north Jersey 10 years ago.  I'll put them into five..

  1. It was such a great day, puffy clouds and a blue as blue could be sky
  2. I was working hospitality, so I was on my way to the job, I heard the news on talk radio.
  3. I watched  the first Tower tumble at my job in Princeton, NJ.
  4. There was disbelief on every person's face.  We were not Jew, or Christian or, Muslim or, Hindu, documented or UN...we were, and are,  one nation under our own God.  (Whom ever that might be!)  Every person was horrified.
  5. And I remember how every American remembers, an attack on their country.

Thank you our first responders, and I pray for you still suffering,  Special thanks to our friends, family and neighbors that we can only remember.

In the words of John Lennon, "All We Are Saved, Just Give Peace a Chance"

But, I must say as an aging protester, I am asking my government to track you down....no matter how long it takes, or how much of my social security $$ it takes....Prove to the World...We're the Best...Don't Mess With Us!.

 Cuz  WE'RE AMERICAN!

I remember driving to work and seeing cars stopped on the Jackie Robinson Expressway in Queens.  My only thought before that was, "Wow, this has got to be the most beautiful day od the year."  I'll never forget how clean and crisp the air felt and then being in downtown Brooklyn watching the rest of the events unfold 15 minutes later.

You comment on the First Responders should be taken to heart by every American.  I no am witnessing friends who were on the pile who have trouble catching their breat (and are about 40 years old), they get pneumonia more frequently than we catch a common cold, they are on every inhalant and medicine known to medical science.

If you knew these people, you would realize it is not a system that they are trying to milk. We have victims of the Trade Center whose families ended up with more than $5 million.  They were in the wrong place at the wrong time.  I have no problem with that.  However, the people who chose to risk their lives to go to that place (when they easily could have turned around), need more care and help.  It's not fun wondering if a father of five young children who was a responder will make it another year.

David, that's what we've got to do...recognize the ailments of those that saved so many...take it from me, better yet take it from those that encouraged and sheltered terrorists.

Rene, it's very hard to remember anything about today, and not have tears.

Laura - I too can remember every detail of that fateful day. I just came from our town's 9/11 memorial and there were speaker there that had been in the Towers and manage to survive - it was so emotional and made it even that much more real.

Thanks all for the comments...it was a day we must never forget.  It tRoubles me that a local paper did a poll, and 14% of the responders age 14 through 19, didn't even know.

WE WILL NEVER FORGET.
