New Jersey's Public Finances-See for Yourself!

New Jerseyan's want transparancy in government.  So, as promised, Governor Chris Christie recently launched a website that provides the public with data that makes it easier to understand New Jersey’s public finances.

http://www.freeworldmaps.net/united-states/newjersey/map.htmlIncluded on this website, www.YourMoney.NJ.Gov, is an interactive map that displays the Garden States’ 3.1 million property tax assessment records. With the new property tax feature,  you can check individual records in your town or community, jump from record to record and compare assessments and taxes from one town to another. Records detail the address, block and lot number, property class, owner name, value of land and buildings, and the prior year’s taxes. The database will be updated annually.

In addition to property tax records, the website makes available budgeting data from 22 agencies, seven years of State spending and revenue data, more than 275,000 pension recipient records, data from nineteen independent authorities and purchasing data for nearly 8,000 state vendors.

The property tax map is great. Better than the one I pay for with my MLS dues. Now if I can just figure out what I'm suppose to do or know with all that data. Que Sera Sera, whatever will be, will be...............

Laura,

Can we borrow Governor Christie for a few months, I bet he could fix a few of our problems down here in Texas!

Gregory-The Governor only promised he'd make it public!

Carol-We're hoping to expand it, because it doesn't cover all agencies in NJ that have the ability to tax!

Brent-A lot of people want to borrow him...he's making some tough decisions.

Good Morning Laura, This is a great post. But where is the suggest button?

I see that as a useful tool as a real estate agent to double check the stated taxes for a house that one of our customer's is purchasing.

Laura, looks like a nice feature to check out property taxes and owners.

Richard-I think all taxpayers should demand this from their government.

Arleen & Tracey-Thanks.

Eileen-It also helpful to home owners and buyers for comparisons.

Michael-And don't forget public pensions!

Sheldon-I'd like to see it include fire districts and every other taxing agency...although it probably wouldn't be a pretty picture!

Laura,
Thank you for highlighting this.  I'd heard about this but not taken the time to look at it yet. Seems interesting on the surface.

This is great stuff. We just bought a condo in Ocean city, and love to play around with the competition. PA doesn't have anything this nice. Great find. Thanks for the post.

Laura, can you believe that a county as rich as the one I live in (ripe with oil money) doesn't have a property map/site at all? We had one several years ago and then they took it down due to technical difficulties and never put it back up.
