Honey Dippers of the Barnegat Bay
Ocean County takes water pollution seriously, after all many of us live here for the Jersey Shore Views! For more than 10 years the County has provided free pump out services for boaters. Recently, southern Ocean County got its own pump out boat!
While the release of untreated sewage is prohibited within three miles of the coast, it is illegal to discharge even treated effluent in No-Discharge Zones. In 2003, Barnegat Bay and the Little Egg Harbor were designated No Discharging Zones by the US EPA.
Pump-out facilities provide the most effective means for emptying holding tanks and are critical in No-Discharge Zones. About seventy-five marinas in Ocean County now maintain land-base pump-out stations for this purpose. But the five Ocean County honey dipper boats might be more convenient.
.The pump out boats in Ocean County typically operate Memorial Day weekend through the end of September. The boats are in service Friday through Monday from 10:00am to 6:00pm and can be contacted on Marine VHF Radio Channel 9. You'll have to identify your boat, its location and service requested. The boats are also in operation on holidays and special events. There is no charge for the service.

Interesting...I don't boat on the big water front and don't have a boat with that type of facility, so I never thought of this modern day Honey Wagon.
Laura, like William I'm a little clueless too...never thought about that as I've never owned a boat...kind of like the guy who comes around the house every so many years to pump out the septic system.
