Jersey Shore Views...: Saving the Planet...One Bottle of Wine at a Time!

Saving the Planet...One Bottle of Wine at a Time!

I love a few glasses of wine in the evening or with dinner.  I like a hearty red, a real Chianti from Tuscany or if I'm feeling very extravagant Brunello (lately, a little out of my price range).corks (sxc)

While I've always recycled the bottles, I never really thought about the corks!

Well, there is an effort underway to recycle corks.

TerraCycle, Inc, is a New Jersey based company doing it's part. They're beginning a program to recycle corksand already recycle cereal boxes, juice/drink pouches and cookie packages.  They'll even pay shipping to get these products to them.  They have offices in Trenton, NJ, Marietta, GA and Toronto.

If you want to do your part to help the environment, and find the recycling in your area satisfactory, check out some of the TerraCycle products for sale.

environmental protection (sxc)The Company's flagship product is TerraCycle Plant Food
™. It's an all natural, all organic, 'goof proof' liquid plant food made from waste (worm poop) and packaged in waste (used soda bottles)!  It is the first consumer product to have a ZeroFootPrint seal! Their products are available at various stores, which you can find here.

TerraCycle calls its history a tale of true Eco-Capitalism.
This company is a great example of how capitalism and social responsibility can work hand in hand.

Toms Zacky is the CEO and founder of TerraCycle.  He has a blog you really should check out, The Eco-Capitalist!

I saw this in the paper today, now I know why I have been saving all the corks, I always thought I would have some use for them, other than them being little trophies!~

Rob, the article in the paper is about a Portuguese cork manufacturer working with people on the west coast.  TerraCycle is way more than that.  Thanks for stopping by!

Hi Laura:

I understand that there is a shortage of cork...

This is why many wine makers have turned to plastic corks.

Laura, this is right up my alley. I'll check out the web site. I'm sick of saving the corks because all my family and friends now have cork wreaths or trivets already!

BTW, When we went to New Zealand (a very ecologically correct country) there were almost NO corks in the bottles. All screw tops whether it was a $10 or $100 bottle!

I know my wife is doing her part to save the world, that is if saving the world involves wine bottles. My in-laws sell wine corks on ebay.

Cereal boxes?  Wow.  I use some of the REAL corks when I can find them, to fashion bobbers for fishing.

Hey, I like your idea.  Some days that is all it takes to set the mind straight!
