OMG, Muffin Top, I'm a Happy Camper!
These are just a few of the words and phrases that make for the latest update of the Oxford English Dictionary. Thousands of potential words are submitted by the public every year via oed.com. Then a team of more than 70 wordsmiths give only the best the green light for inclusion. These are some you might be familiar with:
- OMG - Meaning "Oh my God!", popular in texting and first used in correspondence in 1917!
- MUFFIN TOP - A protuberance of flesh above the waistband of a tight pair of trousers.
- HAPPY CAMPER - A content or satisfied person.
And perhaps my favorite is YUCK FACTOR, that's a feeling of horror, revulsion or disgust generated by an idea, action or situation.
