Homeownership at the Jersey Shore...Isn't It Time?

The New Jersey Association of Realtors (NJAR) has been promoting homeownership in New Jersey through its website RealStoryNJ which has been online for about a year now.

But NJAR didn’t stop with a helpful website, designed to reinforce the fact that even in a state as small as New Jersey, real estate is local!

If you live in NJ, you know there’s a difference between north Jersey and south Jersey, and there’s definitely a difference between living down the shore and anywhere else.

It's Jersey Fresh at the Jersey Shore!

Summer is the best time to live at the Jersey Shore, or anywhere in New Jersey for that matter.  Forget the humidity and frequent weather changes, it's Jersey Fresh!

Jersey Fresh logoThe Jersey Fresh Campaign, initiated several years ago by the New Jersey Department of Agriculture, promotes local farmers and local produce!  

While there are still many farm stands, a joint effort by municipalities and the Ag Department has brought Jersey Fresh products to central locations in many southern Ocean County communities weekly.

  • Jersey PeachesWaretown, NJ Jersey Fresh  On Tuesday afternoon's (12noon - 5pm)through September local growers gather to sell corn, tomatoes, peppers, zucchini, peaches, blueberries and everything Jersey Fresh!  Fresh baked items and crafts are also available.  The market is located at Waretown Lake on Wells Mill Road.
  • Barnegat, NJ Jersey Fresh  On Thursday afternoon's (12noon - 5pm) at the Township Clock across from the Cox House, the intersection of Route 9 and East Bay Avenue.
  • Manahawkin, NJ Jersey Fresh  On Friday, Saturday and Sunday's from 9am til mid afternoon at the Manahawkin Flea Market on East Bay Avenue across from the Motor Vehicle Office.
  • Tuckerton, NJ Jersey Fresh  On Saturday's from 10am til 2pm at the Tuckerton Seaport on Route 9 across from Lake Pohatcong. 

If you need a Jersey Fresh fix on days these municipal markets aren't open, try Herbert's Farm Market on Route 9 in Waretown. They're open 6 days, but closed on Monday.  

Just south in Tuckerton/Little Egg Harbor, I get my Jersey Fresh fix at the B & B Market, 198 Main Street (Route 9) just south of Great Bay Boulevard on the left.  It's open daily!

Why buy Jersey Fresh?  In most cases it's the distribution advantage...produce can be picked, packaged, delivered, purchased and on your table within a day or two!

HAP - Save Our Military From Foreclosure!

Take a moment and send Wendy's letter to you representatives!  This is IMPORTANT and will only take a minute!

  HAP

HAP has done it again!  I recently wrote about the military's Homeowner Assistance Program that is supposed to help our United States service members. When they have orders to relocate, or pcs, to a different military base, the newly expanded HAP would to cover up to 90% of the loss in the service member's upside-down mortgage.  That would be wonderful, because many of our airmen, soldiers, marines and sailors purchased homes that are now worth less than the mortgage balances.  The HAP program would probably save them from foreclosure or short sale.

HAP has provided NO assistance since the initiative was expanded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 that became law this February.  HAP has continually removed information from its website. They have thousands of applicants awaiting help. They have done nothing.  And now it's worse.

Just this morning, I was notified by Don Duft, a fellow Realtor serving military, that HAP HAS COMPLETELY REMOVED ITS WEBSITE.

HAP EglinFriends, this is OUTRAGEOUS!  Last time I wrote there is no help from HAP, now they are completely missing.  It is time to take action!  Don has shared a draft letter that I modified for your use. You may customize it to write your Senator or Congressman to do something to help our military members.  Tell them HAP is TOO LATE to help thousands who have orders to pcs.  Action must be taken NOW to support the men and women who defend us every day!

As Realtor working with Veterans and United States military members it appears that the DOD Homeowners Assistance Program is not responding to those authorized to be assisted in the 2009 Stimulus bill – those Active Duty Military in a Permanent Change of Duty Station (PCS). The 2009 PCS season is at its peak and the DOD does not have the rules issued by which an applicant can benefit. In fact, nothing has been done.

 

It is time that you step in to intervene for these deserving Active Duty Military members so they can complete their PCS move assisted by the program the Senate and House crafted and was signed into law.  These brave men and women do not deserve foreclosure or ruined credit, while defending our nation. It is not encouraging and when you call it is even more discouraging.

Helping Your Local Library in Barnegat, NJ

Visit Calloway’s Restaurant on Tuesday, August 11th and enjoy a great lunch or dinner.  Bring along a voucher, and 20% of everything you spend will be contributed to the Friends of the Barnegat Library (FOL).

The Friends of the Barnegat Library is a not for profit organization.  It’s mission is to promote the Library’s functions and resources and to help the Library meet the needs of the community.

Over the years this has taken several forms, including the purchase of equipment and furniture not covered in the Library’s annual funding allocation.  The Friends of the Barnegat Library also provide funding for many library activities and for the last two years has awarded a $500. Scholarship to a graduating Barnegat High School student.

This Library fund raiser is in addition to other FOL fundraising activities including its book and boutique sales. 

Calloway’s Day for the FOL is scheduled ALL DAY on Tuesday, August 11th.  Vouchers must be presented for the Barnegat Library to get a contribution.  Vouchers are available at the Barnegat Library located on the corner of Burr Street and W Bay Avenue.

Calloway’s Restaurant is located at 597 Route 9 in Eagleswood, just 2.5 miles south of Route 72.

Manners Matter in New Jersey!

You certainly can't say we in New Jersey aren't polite.  

If you've driven in New Jersey, you might think we're impatient and impolite.  That's just not true, as long as you follow our rules of the road.  But in almost all other aspects of life in New Jersey, we watch our manners.

Take for example a burglar chased from a home in Raway, NJ (north and west of my corner of the Jersey Shore).  The suspect dropped the backpack he had stuffed with a couple of laptops and an Xbox when the homeowner caught him in the act and gave chase!  That was back on June 29th.


Well fast forward a few weeks, and the home owner answers a knock at the door.  It's none other than the would be burglar, apologizing for the break-in and fleeing on foot!

The police apprehend the courteous burglar and, for his well meaning apology, charged him with that burglary and another!

See in New Jersey, even our burglars are polite!
